Coming to Ghana

Coming to Ghana

How to properly prepare for the trip and what are the requirements to meet.

1. Travel Documents

Passport

Passport is the most important travel document for all cross-border travelers. It remains the preferred travel document for students traveling to Ghana for their studies. At Eagle Vision Language Institute, we strongly recommend all our prospective students to undertake their trip to Ghana with a valid passport. Having a passport facilitates immigration formalities at the border and it is the only acceptable document at the airport.

ECOWAS Identity Card (National Identity Card)

ECOWAS Member States have recently started issuing new biometric identity cards to their nationals, which they call the ECOWAS Card. This card is supposed to serve as a travel document for traveling to any ECOWAS country. However, most ECOWAS countries have not yet implemented the use of this card for travel. We therefore strongly advise our prospective students not to rely on this document to travel to Ghana.

The Pass

You can also use a valid pass to travel to Ghana, but this should only be in extreme cases where a valid passport is not immediately available. Remember that a pass is valid for one entry only and for a short stay. You cannot use a pass more than once. We strongly advise our students not to use a pass to avoid problems at the borders.

2. Student Visa

Nationals of ECOWAS Member States

Citizens of ECOWAS Member States are exempt from visa requirements to enter Ghana. They only need to hold a valid passport which will be presented at the point of entry (airport or border) for a stamp. ECOWAS members are: BENIN, BURKINA FASO, TOGO, GUINEA, MALI, NIGER, CÔTE D'IVOIRE, NIGERIA, LIBERIA, SIERRA LEONE, SENEGAL, GAMBIA, CAPE VERDE, GUINEA BISSAU and GHANA

Non-ECOWAS nationals

Non-ECOWAS nationals must apply for and obtain an entry visa to Ghana before embarking on their journey. If in doubt, please contact Eagle Vision Language Institute (info@eaglevisionworld.com / +233244662064) for assistance.

3.Vaccinations and Testing

You must be in possession of a valid international vaccination card (yellow card), with the relevant vaccinations, issued in your home country before travelling to Ghana.
